Buderus G115WS/4 Hot Water Oil Boiler

buderus logano-115wsTownsend Energy installed a Buderus G115WS/4 hot water oil boiler in the Holden home. This boiler has many features that enable it to keep a house cozy and warm throughout the winter season.

It is highly energy-efficient. Its stainless steel burner can premix the fuel and oxygenated air. It mixes it before combustion. This feature results in a clean-burning flame that produces a meager amount of emissions. It has an outdoor reset control where it can meet heating demands because it automatically adjusts which makes this model more energy efficient. These features also enables there to be less stress placed on the unit, increasing its lifespan. Its outer shell is cast iron which also helps promote a long lifespan.
A Buderus boiler is easily installed and performs well. It offers:

  • Can function at any return water temperature
  • Swing door for easy inspection and maintenance
  • Does not have refractory parts which help reduce wear and tear
  • The boiler can be thoroughly cleaned and tuned up from the front
  • Cast iron shell-it is built to last and resists corrosion
  • Thermostream design and three-pass boiler design to promote the efficiency and reliability of the boiler
  • Two ETL approved venting options-ensures correct venting
  • Most boilers run at a set temperature. The Buderus G115WS/4 can adjust its water temperature to meet outdoor conditions. This feature increases its efficiency and boiler life.
  • Adjustable legs: Can be installed on inclined surfaces and stay level.
  • The heat exchanger is made of cast iron, giving the boiler the capacity to resist thermal shock.
  • High efficiency – 87% AFUE
  • Warranty: 5-year limited heat exchanger warranty and 1-year limited warranty on electrical and combustion parts.

Facts About Leaking Boilers

Before you continue reading, you should understand that any time a boiler needs maintenance or repairs, it should be done by a trained professional. You should never attempt a boiler repair on your own. Unless you have the necessary training and certifications, you should not make boiler maintenance and repair a DIY project.

If your boiler is leaking, it is a severe problem. In some cases, a leak indicates that an internal component has broken. It could be something simple like a seal or a valve. However, it can also be something serious, where the leak can cause rust or corrosion inside the unit. A leak could also cause the electrical components inside the unit to short circuit. There are some very severe cases where a leaking boiler results in significant damage to the structure of the home. If you notice that your boiler is leaking, you should contact Townsend Energy immediately.

Give us a call today for a free estimate to replace your old boiler. We also offer estimates for repairs and maintenance.

Causes For Boiler Leaks

Weil-McLain 568Finding the cause of a boiler leak can be difficult. You need to find the source of the leak, and this can be challenging. Some boilers leak from the bottom and others can leak from the inside. Below are a few of the most common causes of boiler leaks.

Pressure Valve: If your boiler is leaking from the pressure vale, it could mean that there is too much pressure inside the boiler. The optimal pressure within the tank should be between 18 and 21 PSI. If the pressure is higher than 21 PSI, water will leak from the pressure relief valve to prevent the unit from blowing up. Limescale buildup and the buildup of other sediments can create pressure to build up in the boiler. When an HVAC technician removes the obstructions, the boiler valves will need to be replaced to keep the boiler functioning properly.

Temperature Valve: It the water in the boiler gets too high, it can start to leak from the temperature valve. If this happens, there is likely a problem with the temperature probe within the boiler.

Corrosion: It is not uncommon for a rusted or corroded boiler to leak. When the elements within the boiler are rusted or corroded, they will leak as well. If the boiler is leaking due to a corroded element, usually a replacement of the part is available. However, if both the boiler’s components and the tank have corrosion, you will need to replace the entire boiler. When this is the circumstance, the corrosion and rust have spread to the point where it is not repairable.

Pipe Fittings: If you have a gas boiler, water can leak around the pipe fittings. If this is the case, you may be dealing with improper installation.

Boiler Pump: Leaks that began at the seals of the boiler pump often require the pump to be resealed or replaced. It is the only way to stop the leak.

Many homeowners wait until their boiler breaks down completely before they replace the unit. Unfortunately, these complete system failures can occur in the middle of winter on the coldest day of the year. If you know what signs to look for, you can avoid the expensive cost of a complete system breakdown.

Signs Your Boiler Needs To Be Replaced

Weil-McLain 568 ReplacementIt is a good idea to create a regular maintenance schedule with an experienced HVAC technician. These inspections should occur on an annual basis. In between checks, there are a few signs that you should look for to determine whether or not you should replace your boiler.

The Age Of The Unit: With proper maintenance, a condensing boiler can last up to 15 years. If you have a cast iron boiler, it will last between 20 and 30 years. Some cast iron boilers can last 50 years. However, the efficiency of these boilers is much lower than a modern cast iron boiler. If you replace an old boiler, you can save money on your energy costs. In many cases, the boiler will pay for itself within a few years with the money that you save on your energy bill. It is essential to be aware of your boiler’s age so that you are financially ready when it needs a replacement.

Increasing Energy Bills: If you find that your energy bills are increasing more month by month, it could be due to your boiler. The increase could be due to the boiler’s age or its lack of efficiency. When the system needs to work harder to keep the home at the optimal temperature, it will cause your energy bills to increase. When this starts happening, you should start thinking about replacing your boiler.

Multiple Failures: If you find that you are calling to have your boiler repaired often, it may be time to have it replaced. The repair costs can quickly add up. In time, you will have paid in repairs what a brand new boiler would have cost. It is best to replace the unit if it is breaking down or malfunctioning often.

Discoloration: If you notice black soot on your boiler or if the flame on your gas burner is yellow, it is a sign that the fuel is not burning correctly. When this happens, your boiler is creating carbon monoxide, and it needs a replacement. This can be a deadly situation. To keep everyone in the home safe, you should make sure that you have carbon monoxide detectors in your home.

Leaks: If your boiler is leaking, there is a good chance that it has reached the end of its lifespan. When you replace it, it can prevent a damaging flood which can be very costly. It would take a boiler expert to determine whether you need a quick fix or if the boiler needs a replacement.

Uncomfortable Temperatures: If some room in the home are too hot and others are too cold, it could mean that the controls in your unit are not working correctly. The same is true if the temperature in the home fluctuates throughout the day. When this happens, it is best that you have your unit replaced.
